The Avoyellean Page This page is for the local people of Avoyelles and is dedicated to them, their joie de vivre, and celebrates our way of life in Central Louisiana, the "crossroad of cultures" In a way, it makes sense, since if most of us walk out our front doors we are rednecks, and if we go out the back way we are cajuns. We don't care what you call us, just call us often. We love folks and a good time. We love our music and our food. We'll play music til the cat's come home and we'll eat just about anything, as long as it's seasoned Parish Happenings We're on-line to restore the old Bailey Hotel in beautiful downtown Bunkie. Last year we succeeded in getting it qualified and subsequently listed on the national register of historic places. This year we'll try to bring it back better than even when it was the grandest lodging establishment in it's time. We'll have Victorian style décor with all the amenities. Thanks to the photography effort of Karen Mc Coy who seized the moment after the Christmas parade and had her photo submitted and now graces the covers of the Ads telephone book for Avoyelles Parish. Great Job Karen!!! Marksville The Casino in Marksville has just changed it's name to Paragon Entertainment. They say that it will be as good as if not better than the present management group. We'll wait and see, they have had some top-notch entertainment, for sure. Corn Festival As always, Bunkie's 2nd Weekend in June Corn Festival will be bigger and better than ever. With the music fare, and variety of foods and arts and crafts, there is no better family-oriented small festival. Come and visit with us!!!!!!!!!! Cottonport What a clean little town!!!!!!You'll just love the people, and the setting. Music happens here too at the Corner Bar. Catch all your local favorites, Paul Lemoine, Big Sal "Our Pal Sal", Phillip Meche, and many others here at Donny Andress' original establishment and now owned by Bobby Andrus…...Cool little place………… Moreauville Home of KLIL radio and your Daddy-O on the Rad-E-O!!!!!! Louis Coco keeps Avoyelles Parish music alive with his oldies station and his famous Saturday, "Greaser Show"……..You can listen live on the internet via kricket.net or bunkie.com...give it a try, and you won't be disappointed……….slurp that cup of coffee with Luigi every morning at 6 a.m. Simmesport Avoyelles parish' gateway to 3 rivers is just down the road…..All the folks here are the nicest people you will meet. They love fishing, hunting and having fun…..Special hello to Ms Dot Lacour, goodwill ambassador and special friend and customer. Bordelonville From the levee to grand lake, Bordelonville guards the proverbial gates to hunters Paradise. Quietly nested near the protective levee, the people here love the simple pleasures and love clean living as they farm and hunt and raise their families. Photo's of Life in Louisiana |
